…if you are too big to follow rivers, how will you ever reach the sea?
…if you are too proud to follow rivers, how will you ever reach the sea?

These quotes are taken from the song “River” by Emily Sandé.

We can spend our lives just looking at the river flowing by, just letting our life go by. We may survive. We may function in our family or social circle, but will we be fulfilled, will we find purpose in our lives, will we be physically, mentally, and spiritually healthy?

Sometimes we need to follow the river. Sometimes we should even jump in. The river will lead us towards the sea. We may not know what’s around the next bend. It could be a new landscape or a period of calm. However, it could also be a series of rapids or a waterfall. Things will not always go right but, in many cases, they will, and they will make up for the tough times. We may experience failure or heartache but, when things go well, we will be in a better place. The risk or “leap of faith” will have been worth it.

No matter what age we are and no matter at what stage of life we are, we can always seek new horizons. We can improve ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually.

-
Go for that daily walk.
-
Make contact with that friend.
-
Take up a new sport or pastime.
-
Change career.
-
Start meditating.
-
Get out in the garden.
-
Take that “once in a lifetime” trip.
There are many ways in which we can practice self-improvement. There are many ways in which to find fulfilment, meaning, and purpose. However, we will not find them by just “watching the river go by”. We need to “follow the river” or “jump in”. It may take a “Leap of Faith” but go ahead … the worst scenario is that you get wet!!!

…if you are too big/proud to follow rivers, how will you ever reach the sea?
